🖊️ Personal & Employer Branding Enthusiast
We hire for resumes, but we work with people.
And that distinction matters more than we admit.
In the hiring world, we often obsess over skills, experience, and education, the paper. And yes, these are crucial. But what about the person behind the paper? Do they align with your organization’s values, energy, and culture? Does the way they carry themselves reflect the brand they’re stepping into, or the brand they’re building within?
👉🏾 This is where employer branding and personal branding intersect.
You can’t build a cohesive, people-centered brand culture without thinking about both.
Why This Matters
A company can have the best mission statement in the world, but if its employees don’t embody it, out loud and on purpose, it becomes just another poster in the break room.
On the flip side, talented professionals can miss out on opportunities simply because they’ve never been taught to “show” their value, beyond what’s listed on paper.
This is why branding is not just a business term, it’s a self-awareness tool.
And it should begin long before someone applies for a job.
A New Lens for Hiring
As someone deeply passionate about personal and employer branding, I believe companies must go beyond job descriptions and ask:
•✨ Does this candidate’s presence reflect our brand values?
•✨ Are we hiring people who understand themselves and how they show up in spaces?
•✨ Have we created an environment where employees can bring their full, branded selves to the table, without masks or performative behavior?
After all, we say “don’t judge a book by its cover.”
But you can’t ignore if someone walks into a mechanic’s interview in a three-piece suit and hesitates to get their hands dirty.
Presentation matters. Alignment matters. Branding matters.
Let’s Start Sooner
We talk about these things at the executive level, but what if we started sooner?
What if we taught high school students, young professionals, and career changers how to build their personal brands with intention?
What if “Who do you think you are?” was no longer a criticism, but a call to discover and define your identity with purpose?
I believe that when we empower people to understand who they are and how they are perceived, we’re not just building better resumes, we’re building better workplaces.
And when the person matches the paper, you don’t just fill a position.
You strengthen a brand.
