I never had asthma growing up. I never had severe allergies either. But in the last six years, everything changed. My body suddenly started reacting to foods, environmental triggers, and even my own sweat. The most surprising part? I developed asthma as an adult.
The First Signs of Something Being Wrong
My symptoms started gradually:
✔️ Random shortness of breath.
✔️ Sinus congestion that never went away.
✔️ Increased reactions to dust, perfumes, and strong smells.
At first, I thought it was just seasonal allergies. But then, I started struggling to breathe after eating certain foods. That’s when I knew something was wrong.
The Link Between Food Intolerances and Asthma
Many people don’t realize that food reactions and asthma can be connected. Certain foods can trigger:
✔️ Inflammation in the airways.
✔️ Excess mucus production.
✔️ Histamine release that worsens breathing issues.
In my case, histamine-rich foods, dairy, and citrus were some of the biggest triggers.
How I Manage My Symptoms Today
Because my allergies and asthma are now a part of my life, I’ve had to adjust my daily routine to manage them. This includes:
✔️ Avoiding food triggers completely.
✔️ Taking daily antihistamines to reduce reactions.
✔️ Using a controlled environment for exercise.
Asthma was something I never expected to deal with, but now that I have it, I know how to navigate it.
Takeaway: If Your Body Changes, Listen to It
If you suddenly develop new allergies, sensitivities, or breathing issues, don’t ignore it. Bodies change over time, and so do our reactions to food and the environment.
